COLUMBUS, OH – Grace Virginia Katzenmeyer, 87, passed away on Aug. 16, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio after a mercifully brief illness.

Grace was the quintessential casserole-cooking 50s and 60s mom.
She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School.
She met the love of her life, Phil, and they were married for 59 years, until he passed away in 2006.

Grace spent most of her life in Youngstown, Ohio where she raised two sons, John (Lynn) of Delafield, Wisconsin and Tom (Mary), who lives in Columbus, OHio.

In Youngstown, Ohio, she was very active in the community, Republican politics (one son strayed dramatically from this), the garden club, the PTA, and the library.

She was known for her annual Super Bowl party. There were bowling balls, golf clubs, and tennis rackets in every closet.

Grace was particularly proud of her four grandchildren, James of St. Francis, Wis., David and his wife, Carrie of Stillwater, Minn., Patrick of Columbus, and Anne of Atlanta. Grace was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandson in November.

Phil and Grace were fortunate to live in retirement for 28 years on the par three 7th hole on Course Number Three at Pinehurst Country Club, where an occasional ball would come crashing through their window.

Grace spent her final years at First Community Village in Columbus.

Grace’s ashes will be scattered at a private family ceremony, joining Phil’s, in the rose garden at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst in North Carolina.

The family has asked, instead of flowers, that contributions be made to the Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation for their current capital campaign, 96 South Grant Ave., Columbus, OHIO 43215, Attn. Donna Zuiderweg or the Youngstown Library

The family would like to thank the caregivers at First Community Village and Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Arrangements by the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel in Columbus, Ohio.
