Margaret, my Kaoughs hail from Ireland, too. Might we have a connection? I don't know for sure what county they are from, but have heard Meath mentioned. (See my earlier message here for names.) Pat

I Know a Dr. Joseph Bryant Kaough Phd.III who resides in Houston, Texas and listed in the phone directory if he is still living. He would be 66 and at my last conversation he had had some health problems. He is married to Dr. Judy Kaough Phd. His father was a tug boat operator in Louisiana and Texas and lived in Houston for a while. I am sure this would be your relative. Dr Joseph Kaough is a retired fine arts teacher. I hope you will contact him. Tell him that Jamie Renegar said hello and now resides in Pittsburg, Tx. Good Luck in your search. Nov.1, 2002

My great-great-grandfather was Joseph Kaough, who came to Louisiana in 1849 or so from Ireland, with a stop of several years in New York City.

A cousin of mine has compiled a family history that surely has plenty you'd be interested in. I'm sure she'd like to hear from you.

Cheers, George Kaough

Thanks for the reply. I would love to hear from anyone that can help me with the Kaoughs of Louisiana. I have found out a little more information about my line and maybe I can help anyone with this information. My great grandfather was Joseph Bryant Kaough, and his father with Joseph L. Kaough. Joseph L. Kaough's father was also a Joseph from Ireland. Which line of Kaoughs are you from?
Thanks again for the reply.

Joseph L. Kaough was the brother of my great-grandfather Archie Kaough. There were eight other siblings and one half-sister. The family tree I mentioned has info on Joseph L.'s children. The following is the entry on Bryant: Joseph Bryant Kaough (called Bryant) was born in April 1878. He moved to Galveston as a young man and then to Houston where he lived until his death.

His siblings are William T., James E., Lillie M., Edward Patrick (Pat) and Mary Jeanette (Nettie). Nettie married twice, to John Andrew (Jack) Smith, with whom she had a daughter, Rosemary, and to John F. Brumfield, with whom she had a son, Fred. Rosemary married Minos Primeaux, has six children and lives in Mobile, Ala. Fred lives in Hufffman, Tex.

Hope some of this is useful.

Hi, I spoke to my Mom and she confirmed that Melvin was Carrie Kaough Brewer's son. And Sissy was Myrtle Kaough Scherbre's son. Carrie and Myrtle were my grandmother's sisters. I also remember my Mom taking me to Galveston to see them.
I also remember a family reunion in the 60s. I believe that it took place in Beaumont. Did you go to that one?
Hope to hear from you. My Mom was glad to hear that I have heard from some of the Lake Charles Kaoughs.
Margaret
