Do any of you research the surname Kalafut in PA?
Ethnic origins appear to be Chech or Austria/Hungary. Some settled and mined coal in Clinton County, PA.

112 KALAFUTs came thru Ellis Island. www.ellisislandrecords.org which one is your ancestor? You need a precise place of birth to proceed with the research, which is possible that you already have as this is an old query that I found.

Surnames: KALAFUT PETROS
Another place of birth reference, besides Czechoslovakia, that I have is from George Kalafut's own death record. It reveals Austria-Hungary. He died in May of 1946.
George Kalafut and Anna Petros were married way up north in St. Lawrence County, NY.

Was your ancestor naturalized citizen? If not but lived pass 1940, which he did, he would have to fill out an Alien Registration Form G-639. If he had social security numbers than there too should be a place of birth. http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
