I am searching for more information on a Hyman Kagan, changed to Cohen when he arrived in the USA. DOB would be around 1880, and POB would be Vilna, Lithuania

You are right. Ellis Island changed Kagan to Cohen. I've been told this was because of a language problem and Hyman said he belonged to the Cohen clan. The family changed their name to Kegan in about 1940. I did not know that Hyman was from Lithuania, but it makes sense. Hyman had blue eyes and red hair. Hyman married Anna Stauffer from Austria, I believe. They had seven children. I think that Hyman and Anna first settled in North Dakota. I hope this helps.

I have tracked the Kagan side of my family back to the Vilna-Kovno area of Lithuania. On of my Grandfathers was Hymier. Also George (B:1893) and Maurice (B:1886). Their Father was Baruch Laban Kagan, believed to be a Rabbi.

Is there any match?

Also he was from Lithuania. He had blond hair and blue eyes.
He came to the U.S., joined the first jewish legion in palestine for a bit and returned to the U.S.
