I am wondering if a dna test could be done to finally get a connection to all our Kaeding's , I can't get past my great -great grandparents, Gustav Kaeding & Augusta Kaeding nee Conrad , whom according to a cencus came here in 1879 , but we can't find them on a 1880 cencus for any state or country .I believe I once " spoke " thru here to a deb on some Kaeding's ,but could not really find any connection to my Kaeding's , I know that what Kaeding's I have lived in the chicago area , I have searched news paper articles as sometimes they posted get togethers ( b'day , weddings or just a gathering ) in the papers but nothing is found . I have connected to some living Kaeding's that I know are related to me but they have as much info as I have , and never even thought of geneology before . I was actually able to get some photo's including the photo of my great grandparents wedding . I do know that one of the children ( my great grandmother ) Emma F. Kaeding was born in New york in dec of 1881 , but we have searched ny's records and nothing is showing up not even a ship they came on . I am thinking that Gustav or Augusta may have had reletives in Chicago as that is where they settled , lived and died . So if any of these names sound familiar to you please let me know , Kaeding , Moenke , Niesel , Conrad , Neuman .Emma Neuman and Albertina Geuderian were Augusta Kaeding's sister's .

I am having similar trouble with our Kaeding line. They were firmly entrenched in Chicago from at least 1885 on. Maybe we have a connection and thus the mutual dead ends? Our earliest well-documented ancestor is Friedrich L.C. Kaeding (11/26/1861) from Mecklenburg. His wife was Wilhelmine C. Von Baum (11/26/1862) from Kiel. I have been unable to verify any siblings for Friedrich Kaeding. His father was possibly a Johan Kaeding from Haupstadt. I also know he was a saloonkeeper and was buried in early 1934 at Waldheim cemetery in Forest Park. From census records and oral history, I know they lived in a neighborhood/suburb that was heavily German and Polish.

If any of these places, dates or names ring any bells, let me know.

Saw your post on the Mecklenburg board to the posting from 2000. It is a longshot at best due to the fact that this person has only posted one time every and it was 12 years ago!

The good thing for you is that you have towns and parish location, so you don't have to wait for them to reply. With the data you posted on this page, I believe that Fred had been living in Rostock, because in 1882 I find a Fred Keding from Rostock, Germany headed for America. This may or may not be him, but the towns mentioned in the post your replied to are fairly close to Rostock, about 15-20 miles tops.

I saw from Fred's death certificate online on 31 Dec 1933 that Johann Kaeding and Mary Wolf were listed as parents, so that matched with the 2000 post you ran across.

The LDS have microfilmed copies for all the church records of the former duchies of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz, so it is just a matter of obtaining them and then going through the records and finding your ancestors. The records will be in German Script writing style and of course in German and/or Latin, but the latter years tend to be fairly readable. The earlier back you go of course the harder they get.

So even if you never hear back from that person, you are one of the lucky ones! Once you find that you have Mecklenburg ancestors, and you have the town, you are on your way! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to write me off board at:

Good luck!

One more thing. I took a chance that Fred might be listed in confirmation for 1876 in Sanitz, because Ancestry.com has parish records from 1876-1912 for many parishes in Mecklenburg, and lucked out and he is there.

Friedrich Karl Ludwig KEDING was born on 26 Nov 1861 in Gr. Lüsewitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany to Johann Christian Heinrich KEDING, a tablemaker/joiner from from Gr. Lüsewitz.

So there you go!
