Looking for Kabat family who immigrated to Wisconsin from Poland/Prussia in 1870's. My Kabat family settled first in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, then moved to southern Illinois by mid 1880's It was said that a number of brothers went to Wisconsin, and some remained.

Yes. My husband's great grandfather and brothers settled here in the La Crosse area. He had many children, about 15, I believe. The area has many, many branches of Kabat and it happens to be a very common name here. My husband's grandpa was William Kabat and one of his brothers Joseph Kabat had a tavern here in town, Kabats Tavern. Grandpa Bill spoke Bohemian and his parents never learned English. We have been talking about some type of Kabat reunion for years. Is your branch related to ours?

I doubt it. Our Kabat branch was Polish, from Posnan area. I did see from census records that Kabats from Bohemia and Poland were both in Wisconsin.

I was just transcribing some registration records about WWI and found 2 men called Joseph Kabat and Samuel Kabat living in NY at that time, however their procedence was not mentioned. It only says the 1st one was born on Aug 30 1873 and the other one on January 11 1883, Joseph was a salesman at Kabat Bros and Samuel a manufacturer self-employed. Leave you this info in case it helps you.

My grandmother was Anna Kabat (married name Novak) 1895-1979. Their line also comes from Bohemia. Many settled in Reedsville, WI. Her siblings were: Brothers: Sisters: Frank 1880-1957 Maria (Mary) 1883-1896 Joseph 1887-1961 Catherine 1885-1979 Bernard 1888-1961 William 1891-1964 Charles 1893-1969 John Emil 1898-1974 Adolph 1900-1900 Victor 1901-1988 Ignatius 1903-1973 Leonard 1905-1982
We also have info further back, not sure how far back you go. Would be interesting if we were tied together. I know of a relative that has a lot of info, although don't have direct contact with him, but could work it out.
Let me know if anything rings a bell.
