Henry Kaan Dies Friday; Services Here Wednesday

Henry Kaan, 68, a rancher for 47 years south of Lusk, died of a heart attack Friday while visiting in Lawrence, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Kaan had spent several months each winter for the past several years in Lincoln, Nebr. They were visiting Mrs. Kaan's daughter at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Theodore Foster in charge. Pallbearers were nephews, Cecil Kaan, Lawrence Kaan, Gordon Kaan, Nick Kaan, Jr., Claude Redding and James Shillenn. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Kaan was born in Anna Polania, Holland, January 20, 1893. He came to the United States in 1914 homesteading in Goshen County. Later he expanded his ranching operations and built a house in Niobrara County. He married Vivian N. Butler in 1919 and they were the parents of four children. Mrs. Kaan died in 1931.
He married Amelia Frosheiser in 1935 and she died the following year.
He married Mrs. Isobel Wittwer in 1939.
He was a past member of the vestry of St. George's Episcopal Church and a member of the Lusk Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Isobel;
a son, Henry L. Kaan; three daughters, Mrs. Ardith Dixon of Lusk,
Mrs. Jean Baker of Lewistown, Ill.,
and Mrs. Vivian Schaaf of Sterling, Colo.;
two brothers Menno and Nick of Lusk; two step-sons, Sterling and Ronald Wittwer of Humbolt, Nebr.;
a step-daughter, Mrs. Elma Ruth Yaussi of Lawrence, Kan.; and 21 grandchildren.
