Henry Lafayette Kaan

Henry Lafayette Kaan, 81 of Kansas City, Kan., passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to White Church Christian Church.

Henry was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Lusk. He grew up and worked on a ranch, which he greatly enjoyed. He was a Kansas City area resident for 44 years, many of which he worked at Certainteed.

His loving wife, Lee Kaan; sons Tony and Bruce; daughters Tammy, and sisters Ardith, Jean and Vivian; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Vivian (Butler) Kaan.

Henry was a loving and devoted husband and father. His kindness and generosity towards others is something we will always cherish. He was quick with a helping hand and a smile.

Henry having served in the European Theatre under Gen. George Patton in the Battle of the bulge as an Ammunition Bearer.

He attended Node School and Niobrara County High School. After he was married, they lived in Nebraska and Kansas where they managed several motels, and he worked for Certainteed for many years before an Arm injury and heart attack forced him to retire. The American Legion post 327 furnished Firing Squad and Bugler.
