Aloha,
does any of the Kaalekahi family know why they moved from Napoopoo to Molokai, and hanai out only my great-grandmother. Does anyone know if there is a tie with the family she was hanai to (Iwikau Kalua). Our family has little information about the Kaalekahi family, and my great-grandmother used tell stories to her 16 children. Only 3 of the 16 survive today. And they don't know very much.

Aloha Kimmi, As I was looking, your Aunty Mano is Loretta Kulamanu Nerveza, she was married to Rolland Makauhaole Kaalekahi whom he was the son of Henry Ka'imi'aina Ka'alekahi Sr. and Mary Eliana Palakiko-Akamu. Henry Sr. is the younger brother to my great grandmother Mrs. Lucy Mahuna (Kaalekahi) Grace of Napoopoo, S. Kona, HI. They both come from a sibling family of 13 children. There parents were Ka'alekahi Kupa'aike'e and Kaleikauea Kawa'auhau of S. Kona, Hawaii (they moved to Molokai later in there lives). Rolland and your Aunty had several children, according to my genealogy records Rollanda Mae Eliana, Rolland Makauhaole, Charles Burnett Wilson, Rolly Ann Dolores Leilani, Rolda Kaleikauea, Tehani Momilani. All from Moloka'i. I dont know these people personally, but I do remember I went to a family reunion a long time ago on Molokai, and remember meeting your Aunt. She was a sweet lady, and yes she was very good with genealogy. The Ka'alekahi's were LDS members (my great grandmother was converted at Hanai to Congregational, then became a Catholic when Married my great grandpa Antone Lonoikamakahiki (Degraca) Grace, then died a buddhist). You should be able to find alot of your aunts records by going to the nearest Temple's Family History Center. Its very easy now. Good Luck A hui hou a Malama Pono

Aloha,

I thought I'd run a search on my last name and came across your email conversation with my cousin Kimmie. I am interested in learning more about my tutu man (Henry Kaalekahi) and his siblings. My papa (Rolland "Lalae", Sr.) always told me stories about him and his siblings; however, my aunty Violet "Litty" is the one who would tell stories about tutu man. Aunty Litty has since passes, so any stories about my Kaalekahi family would be nice to hear. I've been without my papa for about 3 years, and I miss him dearly...but most of all, I miss hearing about the family who have since passed.

I hope that you have the time and energy to share. Mahalo nui aloa. E malama pono.
