I am trying to find a record of my great grandfather's death. Born Janos Kalmar, (changed to John Kalmar in America).
He was born 22 Sep 1879 in Tét, Gyor-Moson-Sopron, Hungary. He was a miner in Pennsylvania. A pillar robber. He died in the mine. I don't know the date but the range would be between 1930 and 1936.
I know he worked at the Susquehanna Coal Company when he registered for the draft for World War I. Not sure if this is the company that owned the mine he died in or not.
He lived in Northumberland County, PA. He was alive on the 1920 and 1930 Censuses, living in Kulpmont, PA.
He also had a home on Catawissa Mountain earlier but could not pay taxes and had it taken away before he moved to Kulpmont.
His wife was Barbara (Borbola Bencze). She died around 1921 when was in the last trimester of pregnancy. I cannot find her death record either.
I know they were Catholic but at some point (before or after Barbara's death) he left the Catholic Church and become Lutheran.
Janos and Barbara had nine children:
Rose Kalmar 1906 – 1989
Elizabeth Kalmar 1907 – 1993
Helen Kalmar 1909 – 1982
John Kalmar 1910 – 1964
William Kalmar 1911 – 1996
Louis Joseph Kalmar 1913 – 1986
Frank Kalmar 1914 – 1930
Charles Kalmar 1915 – 1994
Julius Kalmar 1919 – 1999
