Hi, I have not been a member of ancestry for the last few years and only just started again. I agree there is often similarity between the spellings so it can be difficult to differentiate. My spelling is Jowle and have so far traced the name in the Hope valley to c1750. Perhaps the root family dispersed to East and West during this time to look for work in the steel or cotton industries and the name spelling could easily be changed as they probably could not read or write and only thought of their name by verbal sound. If you have any clues as to the origins I would like to hear
