Hi there
I am researching the name Hannah Jowett who married William Orrell who was either from Leeds or Lancashire.
Descendants of William are known to have settled in the Holbeck area of Leeds and I have found no definate birth information for William to say where he was born but know there are also connections with Lancashire.
The marriage will have taken place around the 1700's.
Can anyone help me out here please I would be eternally grateful as this is fast becoming a brick wall for me.

Trying to trace my Jowett/Jowitt roots.

John Jowitt (c1801 in Aberford - possibly the son of Samuel Jowitt and Mary) married Hannah Manners in 1824. They had 8 children - James (1824), William (1826), Sarah (1829), Anne (1830), Elizabeth (1834), John (1836), Charles and Mary (1841) (all born in Aberford).

Charles (born 1838) married Sarah Spink of Kippax (born 1838) in 1861. They also had 8 children - Jane (1862), Mary Elizabeth (1864), Sarah (1867), Martha (1869), John (1872), Thomas (1874), William (1877) and Mary Beatrice (1881) (all born in Aberford).

Hello everyone,
I would like to know if anyone here knows anything about Joseph and Maximillian Jewett. I have heard something about how they were very rich but one of the Jewetts (either Jo or Max) drank all his money away...does anyone know this theory? or anything at all about these two? Or any Jowetts who were v. rich and drank all their money away? I am suposedly descended from one...:) All I know is that they were the first Jewetts to settle in England. Also does anyone know the Jowett/Jouet/Jewett/De Jouet surname origin/meaning? I do know that I am related to Fred Jowett and if anyone would like to find out if they're related or are interested in him then a v. good site is http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/TUjowett.htm

Looking for any info on Jane Jowett's family. She was born in 1863 in Yorkshire and died c.1911. She married William Hood Waddington and he and the children moved to New Zealand around the time of her death.

I live in the USA have researched our Jowett line back to 1730.They came from Wilsden,Shipley,Calverley,Bradford,etc. Starting with James Jowett b.1730-married Hannah Huttan in 1751-Their son=Thomas Jowett b.1764 married Elizabeth Watmough in 1784-Their son James Jowett b. 1795 married Mary Hill in 1816-James and Mary had 12 children,one of their sons was Shem Jowett b.1833 and married Sarah Jane Houldsworth in 1857.Have info up to present date and willing to share.Anyone knowing the parents of James Jowett born in 1730 (listed above),or who would like to exchange info please email me at> edj11@comcast.net

William Jowett married Judith Webster on 7 Nov 1830, Halifax, Yorkshire, England. Their son, Josiah Jowett, born 5 Mar 1831, Southouram, Yorkshire, England, married Hannah Marshall. Josiah's and Hannah's children were Ann (born ca 1858), Louis Irvin (born ca 1862), John Henry (born 1863, died 1923, noted pastor), Mary L (born ca 1870), and Henry S. (born ca 1872).

Louis Irvin Jowett married Ellen Ada Broadley, and they had Emily (born 1891), Margaret E. (born 1884, married Harold Cockroft), Clement (born ca 1888), Gladys (born 1890, married James Dale), and Lillian (born ca 1891).

Gladys Jowett married James Dale in 1919 and they had two children: Fred (born 1922, married Gladys Proctor) and Marjorie.

Looking for any info on Joseph Jowett, born Leeds, Yorkshire on 14th Sept. 1881, son of Alfred Jowett (Wood Turner) and Mary Ann Jowett (nee Broadbent). Married Nellie Sayer 21.12.1901 and they had 5 children. Joseph joined R.E.M.E. and served in Mesopotamia. He was still alive 1919 since when there is no trace of him.

I'm trying to find information on the marriage of
Jane Elizabeth TEAGUE to ? JOWETT.

I know it's a long shot!!!
I have lots of info on Jane and none on ? JOWETT

Jane Elizabeth TEAGUE was born in 1883 in Wakefield.
Her parents are Tom TEAGUE and Elizabeth (formerly MOUNTAIN.)
Tom TEAGUE was from the Forest of Dean in Gloucester.

In the 1901 census Jane aged 19 was living in Keighley with her Mum, brother James TEAGUE aged 22and 2 sister's Emma aged 9 and Fanny aged 14.

According to family legend Jane and ? JOWETT lived in Lancashire. By 1922 she was a widow.
I would imagine that she married between 1901 and 1915.

If anyone has heard of this family I would be delighted to hear from you.

All were born in Halifax, England, and their residence in this census was Northowram, York, England.

John H. Jowett was John Henry Jowett, a noted minister.

I have a Hannah Jowett who married William Horrill in 1737.
One child that I know of from this marriage is William born 1746 and christened at St Peters, Leeds.
William, the son married Elizabeth Hattersdill and had three children -
James born 1789 (who married Ann)
Ann born 1791 (nothing known)
Joseph born 1794 (who married Elizabeth)
My line descend from Joseph who married Elizabeth. They had to my knowlege two daughters Amelia and Sophia.
Amelia married Charles Jeffcock who was born in Sheffield in 1829. They had several children, but their first born Mary Elizabeth Jeffcock born Leeds in 1851 was my 2 x great grandmother.

Does any of this ring bells with anyone and can fill me in on the Howett connections. I have amassed quite a wealth of information on the Jeffcock side of the family and would love to share information with you.

I have Charles Jowett b. abt 1808, Bradfield; became a stonemason; m. Hannah Cockayne 1832, Ecclesfield; moved to Sheffield and had maybe 8 children. Then Henry Jowett, b. abt 1840 Sheffield; became a blade forger; m. Martha Bradshaw 1860 Sheffield St George's; they also had abt 8 children, some in Sheffield and some in West Ham, Essex. Then George Jowitt, b. 1866 Sheffield; m. Mary Ellen Jackson abt 1888 in Sheffield (she persuaded him to change the way he spelled his name, for some unknown reason). Any connections?

Thomas Jowett and wife Elizabeth Pratt

Thomas Jowett (ex Yorkshire) and his wife Elizabeth Pratt (ex London?) came to Australia sometime in the 1850s. Two children came with them. They first settled at Menangle in New South Wales and then moved to Ipswich in Queensland.

Thomas was a Stonemason and worked at his trade on railway bridges here.

My grandfather, Alfred Edward, was their third child and he was born at Menangle. He later became a school teacher at Maryborough, Port Douglas and Coomera in Queensland.

Is there anyone out there who might be connected with Thomas and Elizabeth?
