I am back into doing my Joslin research after a few years away from that branch. I am looking for additional info, suggestions or cousins to share my info with.
According to info from various sources which I believe all originate with Edith Wessler's book, I have the following:
1.Thomas Joslin b 1658 in Scarborough, Maine, he married Mary Vaughn 12/21/1881 in Rhode Island. Apprenticed to his brother Henry to learn to be a smith. Lived in Little Compton and Kingston, RI.
2.Their oldest son Thomas was born 1684 in Newport, RI and married Mary. He was a Freeman in South Kingston in 1722. Thomas and Mary had 3 children:
Mary married John Lillibridge
Freelove married William Gardinar in 1737
Thomas (3) married Mary -- which I believe is the following family recorded in Cumberland, R.I. Records of Birth, Book 1, page 21.
The Children of Thomas (3) Joslen and Mary his wife married 1734
Abraham Joslen their first born Son Born Feb 9th, 1736
William Joslen born January 21 in the year 1738
Ruth Joslen their first daughter born Jan 23rd 1740
Abiger Joslen their second daughter born August 13, 1743
** (4)Thomas Joslen their third son born Jan 27th 1746
Mary Joslen their third daughter born May 5, 1748
Phebe Joslen their forth daughter born August 30, 1750
Abigail Joslen their fifth daughter born September 7th 1751
Recorded Dec 2nd 1752 John Dexter Town Clerk
Thomas Joslin (3) took the oath for freeman in 1752.
I believe Thomas Joslin (3) brought his family to Cumberland in early 1752 since the entire family was listed on the same day.
Thomas (4) married Sarah Taft 2/1/1767, intention recorded at Uxbridge, Mass. married in Smithfield, RI. He had 6 children of which:
(5)Rufus born 1/7/1774 married Lucinda at Cumberland
(Stephen Joslin the town clerk was his brother.)
Rufus and Lucinda had 9 children of which:
(6)Thomas born Jan 25, 1807.
Thomas Joslin (6) went to Winsted, Conneticut, where Thomas Joslin was a blacksmith working for John Boyd at Boyd's Rolling Mill. Which follows the previous blacksmith tradition in this line. Thomas Joslin (6) married Eliza Joslin in Winstead, had 3 daughters before leaving Connecticut for New York and
eventually Wisconsin in the late 1830's.
By the way, does anyone know where I can find a copy of Edith Wessler's book on the Joslin family? Or does anyone know how to find her daughter Carol Treadway?
Thanks for any help,
