For information regarding train accidents, a good source would be to contact the Transportation Museum of Roanoke, Virginia. I can get the address for you. It is operated by the Norfolk & Western / Norfolk Southern Railway.

The Norfolk & Western Headquarters was there in Roanoke and they have good records regarding rail history, and records of accidents.
