I am looking for anyone who may have heard a family story about a girl adopted into their family after her family all died while on a trip west from Ohio possibly in a wagon train sometime around 1838. This is what I recieved from my aunt who taped it from my grandfather as it was told to him by his grandmother.....

Chauncy's recollection:
In the early 1800's an infant baby girl was traveling across the US by wagon train with her family. As happened often in those days, an epidemic of illness struck the family and everyone in her family died. Another family with the wagon train took her in and raised her. As they didn't know her name, she became Mary Jones. Dad thinks the last name was the same as the family that took her in. She eventually married Hiram Ott, who was of Pennsylvania Dutch descent, and had 6 children with him. They married in Greene County, Iowa. Their children are as follows:

Julia Etta Ott
Mary Hulda Ott
Webster Ott
Bertha Belle Ott
and 2 children that died.

Chauncy Bryant is my grandfather. His mother was Julia Etta Ott and her parents were Hiram Ott and Mary Jones.

Please contact me if this story sound familiar or if you have any information.

Thank you & God Bless,
Dee
