Just came across your thread, and found an intersting twist in your information. Bear with me on this, and I'll try to explain. I have reached a brick wall with my Great-Grandfather's ancestry. In your thread you mention "Stafford Jolibois." There is a name which shows up in my family tree as "Lloyd Stafford Jolibois." Is this your Grandfather as you mention? (I do have photos of he and his family taken as late as 1965, and earlier ones with his Mother - Clara). His Father shows in my family tree as "Ovid Jolibois," who was my Grandmother's Brother. Here's where it get's interesting. My Grandmother and her Brother's Father's name was "Prospiere Jolibois," and he was definitely from France according to my Grandmother's notes, and verified by census records. I have only been able to find two source citations on him, the 1870 and 1910 census. On my Grandmother's 1885 Christening record (issued at the Mater Delarosa Church in Plaucheville, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana), My Great Granfather's name appears as "Prospiere Jolibois," and my Great Grandmother's name appears as "Ophelia Jeansonne." And, I have had problems going any farther back (in certainty) on Ophelia's ancestry. In addition, I inherited several photos of Prospiere and Ophelia. However I have tracked the origin of many heirlooms that I inherited that belonged to my Great-Grandmother as originating in France, Germany, and Spain. Among those heirlooms are religious items (Catholic). My Grandmother told me throughout her life that the religious items were brought to the US from France by her Father, although she never spoke of her Mother being from France (as mentioned in your post). It's possible, in light of the fact that Ophelia's ancestry is fuzzy. I have cobbled together a further lineage on her, but it cannot be confirmed. I do know that within my Family, the stories always were that we were descendants of French nobility, but it was never mentioned about Holy ancestry! Interesting...
