ANN HARPER-JOHNSTON, CHARLOTTE BARTON Any information will be welcome since all I know about these people is what I recite below.
As far as is known, JAMES JOHNSTON came from County Antrim in Ireland in the
early 1800's. He was born about 1770. On the boat, James met Mr. & Mrs.HARPER (ANN HARPER). Mrs. Harper's husband died at sea. She came to Toronto and later married James Johnston on June 25, 1810 and lived in Island Creek. Twp. (near Knoxville, OH) Jefferson Co. OH. When they married, James had two children. The 1820 Census indicates that she also had several children. ANN HARPER-JOHNSTON was buried In Wood Co. where her daughter CHARLOTTE BARTON lived. (Where?) She was listed in the 1840 Census as living with James, but was not listed in the 1850 Census with James. He died about 1851. ANN HARPER- JOHNSTON may also be known as MARY ANN OR MARY CHARLOTTE or CHARLOTTE ANN. 1820 Census: Knox Twp., page 266. James Johnston: 3 males under 10 yrs, 1 male 10-16 yrs, 1 male 45 yrs or older. 2 females under 10 yrs, 1 female 26-45 yrs. She could have been as much as 10 years younger than he.
