Following the death of Henry Joel the Joel sisters Katharine & Margaret m. the Ellis brothers Abraham & Jacob and moved from Lancaster Co., PA to what became Berkeley Co., VA to the land the girls had inherited from their father, Henry Joel. The farm is on the West side of Back Creek. When you arrive in Martinsburg go to the Berkeley Co. Historical Society and ask for directions. The Burial ground is on the south side of a water course just south of the house which was for sale when we visited the place in 1998.
Abraham Ellis had a grandson also named Abraham who was shot by Wm. Quantrill during during the KS-MO border war. Abraham was thereafter known as (Abraham "Bullet Hole" Ellis) since the entry wound could be clearly seen on his forehead. Enter the bracketed info on Google to see his photo and read about Abraham. Abraham Ellis formerly Alles was b. 1750 in Lancaster Co., PA. He was the son of Johan Jacob Alles.
