I am looking for information on my husband's grandfather, Gustave Joachim. He and his son Ferdinand came through Ellis Island in March 1908. They settled in Berrien County, MI. Also, does anyone know where Salomke, Russia was located or what its present name is? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I read your post and I am also searching for information on my grandfather who was born in Plotzk, Russia but who's last known residence before coming to America in 1908 was Salomke Russia. I can't seem to find any information on this town. Do you have any? Thank you, Kathie Lucks

After I posted this messasge a few years ago, I had a reply from a Jerry Frank in Canada who suggested I try this site: http://www.sggee.org (Apparently it stands for "Society for German Genealogy.") Many of my family settled in Berrien Co., MI. It's confusing to read their naturalization papers, as they give different answers regarding their last foreign address: Gostynin, Russia; Salomka, Russia; Volhynia, Russia; and even The Republic of Poland. I believe all these are now part of Ukraine. The site would probably be helpful, however, there is a fee involved. I've not pursued it. Hope you are successful!
