Hi Teresa,

Have you obtained birth, death and marriage records for your father and grandfather? They should help answer the questions you have and tell you more about your ancestors.

Assuming everything has happened in England, go to http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ and check the indexes there. It isn't complete yet, but it is free, so if you find your people there that is a bonus. Other sites, where you will find complete indexes but it will cost you a little to view them, are http://www.findmypast.com/ and http://www.ancestry.com/

Once you've found the index information, you can go to the General Records Office (http://www.gro.gov.uk/) and order the certificate.

There may be other ways of finding the information without having to pay for the certificate, but I'm not familiar with them, sorry. Try your local family history society, or the society for the county where your family was based if that is different.

Hope this helps you along your way. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard
