I was very interested in reading your message. My family come from the Staffordshire, Worcestershire area in the UK. I was born in UK and now live in Sydney Australia. I have been told the origins of our surname identify with the Battle of Hastings in 1066, when the Danes invaded Britain. The Danes were Jutes and our name has evolved from Jutes to Jukes/Jewkes.
Back to my family. My father was one of 9 children. His name was Aldwyne Archibald. His brothers were Laurence, Jack, Sidney, Hectory and Harold. He had three sisters, Doris, Lillian and one who died before I was born. My father was named after his two uncles who fought in the first world war- hence the name A. A. Our family connections in Worcester must be huge as I know of many cousins, Jennifer and Janet Jewkes as well as the children of Uncle Harold. Hector and Jack never married and lived in College Cres in what was the last lytch gate house in Worcester. This house was historical in that it housed the roundheads during the time of Charles 11. Sadly, it was pulled down to make way for a motorway through Worcester, which runs right by the cathedral. I also know that part of my grandfather's family are in Canada. Does any of this interconnect with you. Even if it doesn't you can be sure we are related along the line as it is such an uncommon surname. All the very best. Jennifer
