Here are the old Bible entries recorded of James Beatty Jewell's bible.
Old letter in 1978 was in the possession of Warren Jewell, Osborne, Kansas. I, Charlotte Jewell, copied the handwritten letter and it is as follows:
“James B. Jewell was born April 27, A.D. 1801
Rachel S. Jewell was born February 28, A.D. 1805
Rebecca Mary Elizabeth Jewell was born January 30, A.D. 1835
Ruth Dariette Jewell was born February 11, 1836 A.D.
Susan Victoria Jewell was born November 6, 1838 A.D.
Seaton Kincheloe Patterson Jewell was born March 23, 1843 A.D.
Now Bud this is your name recorded in Pa’s bible with all the rest of his family though not in his handwriting as the rest are—But in a nervous trembling hand. No one living knows who wrote it but I asked Aunt Sarah many years ago who recorded your name, she did not know but thought likely twas Ma, and I do to as you know she was sick from the time you were born until her death which was in three weeks after you was born and again Uncle K. has told me that it was her wish for you to be named for both her brothers.”
I have more info, let me know what you might need. Were you able to go to ancestry.com and view my records on line? Did you see the portrait of Seaton Kincheloe Patterson Jewell, his wife, and his son, James William Jewell?
Also, can you give me the specifics of census records, marriage of Susan Victoria, your descendent. Do you have a photo of her? I am assuming Rebecca Mary Elizabeth Jewell, the first born child apparently died young, as she was not listed in the 1840 census or mentioned in James B. Jewell's will.
Write again when you can. You can also reply to me at
