Mrs. E.A. Jewart Laid To Rest
Died Tuesday Night After Brief Illness
Had Lived in Liberal Almost Since it Was Founded
Mrs. E. A. Jewart died at the family home in the east part of Liberal, Tuesday night at 11:30p.m. Her last illness covered a period of only about one week, although she had been in poor health for a long while.
Sarah Catherine Babb was born in the north part of this state on March 26, 1852, and died at Liberal, Mo., March 30, 1915, at the age of 63 years and 4 days.
She was married to Ephram A. Jewart June 4 1868, at Bigstranger, Leavenworth County, Kansas, to this union was born ten children, seven girls and three boys. One boy died in infancy. Those living are, Mrs. Ida Fast, Iantha, Mo.; Mrs Elizabeth Lavery, Liberal; William Jewart, Liberal; Mrs. Emma Breivogel, Pittsburg, Kans.; Mrs. Clara Richards, Medicine Bow, Wyo.; Mrs. May Short, Pittsburg, Kansas; Mrs. Maude Argo, Brandon, Colo.; Miss Nellie Jewart, Rawlins, Wyo.; and Welcome Jewart, Medicine Bow, Wyo.
Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her death, two half-sisters, Mrs. Jane Peacock of Ekalaka, Mont., and Mrs. Nancy Belline of Golden City, Mo., and one half-brother, Alex Hicks of Mansfield, Douglas county, Wash., also Twenty-six grandchildren and two great grand children, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Jewart shortly after their marriage settled on a homestead in Wilson county, Kansas, later moving to McDonald county, this state, then back to Kansas. Making another move they came again to Missouri, locating near Dublin, south of Lamar, then after living there about seven years, moved to Liberal in 1882, when the town was only two years old. Since then they have made this their home.
Mrs. Jewart was a kind, good woman, well liked by all who knew her. The community will extend their sympathies to the family in their hour of sorrow.
Funeral services were held at the home Thursday morning, April 1st at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by G. W. Baldwin, and the body was laid to rest in the Oddfellows Cemetery.
