Hi Julie,

Per your posting of 10 Jul 2010. I did a lot of research to come up with this, See attachment. I hope it come through ok.

The Wintermantel’s have a long history which goes back for quite sometime.

Approximately in 1967 I started putting together my family tree, starting with my mother’s side. My uncle who was helping me at the time thought it would be wonderful if I also did my father’s side. Over the next ten to fifteen years I worked with a Mormon genealogical researcher who opened up the tree back to the time of The Thirty Years War, and along with a seventh cousin twice removed. There were originally three brothers from Switzerland. One settled in Austria, the second stayed in Switzerland, and the third settled in Germany (The Black Forest area). The family (originally were Swiss. Not German, originally) while in Switzerland were connected to nobility, and were Royal Swiss Knights.

There is no doubt that there are many Wintermantel’s scattered in many countries. After years of research I am convinced that the name stands out like an eight ball on the pool table.
On the Family Coat of Arms “Wintermantel” means “overcoat” in german.

The Family Coat Of Army, and the church where they were located was retrived, but the church was destroyed in the Second World War.

Regards, P.W.
