I am descended from William and Esther, through their son Isaac, born about 1730, and grandson William, born in 1754. This is the same family as the wealthy Anna Jeanes, who endowed the hospital at Fox Chase, near Abington, Pa. I have pieced together a family tree for the first three or four generations in Pennsylvania. (Incidentally I have found no connection to the Janes family in Massachusetts or the Jeans family in Maryland).
My question is about the origins of William Jeanes. A manuscript in the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore says that he came from France, with his father and two brothers, and settled in Pennsylvania by way of New Rochelle, NY. I have found no evidence to support this, and personally believe that the family was English. If in fact he had any brothers they might have been named Joseph and Robert. Anybody want to share information on this family?
