Surnames: Jeandrevin
Sarah, I believe we're all decendents from the Swiss
family. The Heather Jeandrevin in Cincinnati is my daughter-in-law. She married my son, Joseph and she is into scrapbook. I also have a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tracy, also in Cincinnati. My daughter, Kathy Jeandrevin, lives in Huntington, IN. where I also live. My father was Clarence Lavern Jeandrevin, Sr. and my grandfathers name was William. I had a younger brother who was also named William, he's deceased but his wife, Linda, lives in Calif.

My fathers family came from NE Ohio. There was a post elsewhere that I read about a family in Wayne Co. Ohio in 1880. His name was Louis, age 55 born in Switzerland. But the last name was spelled Jeandervine. His wife was Sophia and his children were Edward, Emiel, Julia, Pauline, Mary, Sophia, John, Louis and William. If the spelling of Jeandrevin was just a typo error its possible that this was my great Grandfather.

I have also been researching the Jeandervine family history. The family lived on the French/Swiss border and settled in Mt. Eaton area of Ohio. They were aristocrats and fled Europe in fear of their lives during the Napoleonic Wars. The three oldest children Louis, Henry, and Sophia stayed in the US but their parents and younger siblings returned to their home in France/Switzerland and were never heard from again. The name of the town in Switzerland was Orvin and the family name is derived from the name Orvin. Check RootsWeb which has the entire family history; I have been in contact with Louis' branch and Sophia's (married Schmidt) branch of the family. My husband is descended from Henry Jeandervine/Jeandrevin who had a son named Charles Elias Jeandervine whose daughter was Florence Grace Jeandervine. Do not let the small variation in spelling worry you. Many early settlers to the US were not able to read or write. Fortunately this family name has changed very little over the years compared to many other names. The branch my husband is related to also lived in the Mishawaka, Indiana area which is near South Bend. They frequently returned to Ohio for visits.
