Where or where are any decendants of Katie Minson Fry (nee Jeakins?
Katie was born in 1872 in ?Bedfordshire but was taken to Hull as a child along with her brothers and sister. She married Edward Fry in Hull in 1892. They had 3 children - Florence 1897, Edward 1899 and Annie Elizabeth 1900. Annie E married ? Gilchrist in Hull in 1924.
Please, if anyone knows of any decendants of these people in Hull or anywhere please will they contact me. I have been researching the Jeakins family history for quite a few years now and have lots to share.
Regards Linda

Hi I am a descendant of the Jeakins family of Potton. I know many of them migrated to hull in the late 19th century after the death of James Jeakins the market. Gardener. A similar group moved to Peckham. Please let me know if I can help.

Hello, Thank you for your reply. I am a descendant of Jacob Jeakins born 1809 Great Staughton. His father was Thomas Jeakins born ? 1786 Bedfordshire. Thomas was in the Bedford Workhouse in 1841 according to the 1841 census. He is an Ag Lab. I have found so far three siblings for Jacob - John Jeffery, Christopher and Matilda all born in Great Staughton.
If you have any info of any of the above I would be very greatful. I have a photo of the house my great grandfather lived in with his family prior to leaving Little Staughton. His name was also Christopher and he was the village Blacksmith. Why he left such a beautiful village to go to the slums of Hull (where I was born) I do not know.
Thank you for your reply to my request.
Best Wishes Linda.

Hi Linda I am a descendant of James Jeakins and Ann Croot of Potton . Some of their children married into the Charter family who moved to Hull. The remainder moved to London when the estate of George Croot, a market gardener was sold off on his death.

They a all seem to have changed over into regular paid employment, perhaps an economic incentive.

Many of the Croot family stayed in the area, though alarmingly died young. Perhaps not the healthy rural idyl we are led to believe in.

Hope this is some help

John

Thank you Linda,
I am currently trying to sort out siblings of his children. There are two James Jeakins who appear to have been born in or around Great Stukely.

Best Wishes

John
