I began this quest back in 1998. Got a few responses, then
other priorities reared their ugly head, so I had to stop
my quest. Now I am back, to haunt this cyberspace "hang
out" again.
I would like to know if anyone out there has ever done any
research to track down the sons, daughters, grandsons, and
grand daughters of the JOHN JAY of Revolutionary War fame.
I know he had a son name John and one named William. One
of them later bacame an anti slavery and pro union activist
during the Civil War. I think it was son John. William was a federal court judge, if I am correct in my readings. I could find nothing else about John Jay's sons and daughters. I know he had at least the two sons I just named, and maybe one more. I also know that John Jay had at least two daughters. There may have been an third son
named Peter.
I am anxious to find out if ANY of the sons and daughters
ever moved south, to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Georgia. As far as I can tell, they all
stayed in New York or migrated to Pennsylvania.
IF anyone can enlighten me, I would be deeply gratified.
I have vast amounts of info about the Jays of Georgia and
Texas, but nothing at all about the decendents of the
famous John Jay.
Thank you.
