The article below was listed in several papers across the country. I am researching the Jaubert (Joubert, Jubar) family which lived in Jackson County, Illinois during the mid to late 1800's.
I have quite a bit of information on this family, but I always welcome new information.
Thanks,

They had returned intoxicated and the husband demanded supper. Mrs. Jaubert began its preparation and her husband began breaking dishes and at last attacked her.
Mrs. Jaubert and her sister fled to their room, locking the door. Her husband followed, broke in the door and renewed the assault, whereupon the wife fired three shots into his body, one passing through his heart, causing death. The brother, who was a witness to the tragedy, took up his brother's quarrel and attempted to strike the woman, whereupon Mrs. Jaubert emptied two remaining chambers of the revolver into his body, inflicting a wound from which.he died shortly afterward.
The scene of the tragedy and floor of the house presented a horrible sight. The woman gave an alarm and surrendered to the officers. Coroner E. E. Kraus impanelled a jury, who exonerated the wife. The brothers had been noted for years for their brutal ways, and the wife had for years stood all the abuse that a drunken husband was wont to inflict
