Sylvia J. Sadowsky

97, a resident of Tucson since 1958, died August 30, 2003 at Maison Da Vinci, where she had been cared for and loved for more that a year.
Born Sylvia Jasie December 12, 1905 in New York City, the daughter of William and Esse Jasie, she grew up in Manhattan, where her father practiced law, and she attended public schools.
She was married to Herbert Elins in New York in 1927 and lived in Maplewood, NJ, where he had a law practice until he became ill with multiple sclerosis in the early 1930's. Moving to Las Angeles, Sylvia, then a mother of two sons, was assistant secretary to 20th Century Fox Studios founder and chairman Joseph M. Schenck. Moving back to New Jersey she continued to work for the studio until her husband's death in 1942.
Several years later she met and married Emil Marans of Butte, MT in 1949. The two had a winter home in Tucson. After Mr. Marans died in 1958 she made Tucson her year-round home.
In 1969 she was married in Tucson to Irving Sadowsky, then owner of Ace Poultry Co. During this time and after his death in 1981. Mrs. Sadowsky worked for several years for Cele Peterson and managed one of her stores. She enjoyed a wide circle of friends, which she continually cultivated. Her most loved pasttimes were crosswords and bridge. A life master, she was still playing duplicate bridge well into her 90s as was still winning.
A son, Robert Elins; a brother, Lawrence Jasie and a sister, Madelyn Schilling preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Edward Elins (Ann) of Highland Park, IL; two stepsons, Mort Sadowsky (Belia) of Tucson, and Howard Marans (Dinah) of Belmont, CA; a stepdaughter, Donalee Marans of New York City; a daughter-in-law/daughter, Lynn Sadowsky of Tucson; a sister, Pearl Friedland of Bal Harbor, Fl; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Copeland (David) of Highland Park, IL; Michael Elins (Gabbi) of Pacific Palisades, CA; Diane Copeland (Robert) of Deerfield, IL; Philip Elins (Sara) of Woodland Hills, CA; Laura Elins of Chicago; Michael Sadowsky (Cindy) of Tucson; Matthew Sadowsky (Shelly) of Tucson, Rachel Miller (Jeff) of Boca Raton, FL; Todd Marans (Virginia) of San Carlos, CA; Scott Marans (Barbara) of Sacramento, CA and Lisa Price Marans of Pacific Palisades, CA; 19 great-grandchildren and a dear friend/daughter, Glenda (Dale) W. of Tucson.
A Memorial Service will be held at EVERGREEN MORTUARY on Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Services officiated by Rabbi David Freelund of Temple Emanu-El. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to City of Hope, 7454 E. Broadway, 85710.
