Surnames: Jaques, Jakeways, Jakeway, Jakway, Jakways, Jaquays, Jaquay, Jackaway, Jacques
I believe that there may be many of us out there like myself, who are slowly watching the Jaques mailing list hoping that something will "pop-up" with the names or information that we may be looking for, but there may be others working on the same line or name, but don't know the others exist.

Therefore, I would like ot suggest a "roll-call" of Jaques (or any of the spellings--or even misspellings) who are trying to locate information, by simply posting, or re-posting what lines and names they are working on, and perhaps we can generate some new interest and exchanges of information.

I will start by identifying myself, and that I am working on the Jaques (also spelled Jakeway, Jakways, Jaquay, etc.) line, including specifically, Varnum Jaques (Jakeway) born RI in 1896, and William C. Jakeway, his father, born 1770 in RI. Both of these individuals lived in New York, in Oneida, and Madison counties. Varnum later moved to Licking county Ohio, at which time the name was more commonly spelled Jaques, by Varnum's wife Julia, and their posterity.
William C. Jakeway married Mary Case and had Varnum, Mary, Sarah, and Hannah and possibly Nathanial (not yet proven). Wm C. Jakeway is buried in Alton Cemetery in Kent county MI. It is possible that William C. had other children, but these listed are the only ones known at this time.

Varnum married Susannah Burleson in 1817, and had six children by her. William, James, Harriet, Issac, Mary, and Susan.

Susannah died in 1829, and Varnum married Julia Ann Case and had nine, possibly ten children by her; namely, Varnum (jr.), Caleb, Henry, ?James?, John Porter, Levi Jason, Charles Esau, Franklin Theodore, Adeline, and Cordelia.
Varnum is buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery in St Albans, in Licking co, Ohio.

In addition, it appears that an Amos Jaques (also Jakway) might have been William C. Jakeways father. Amos is listed in the 1790 census in Kent county RI, and appears to have owned land bordering RI and CT. Later, he is listed in Windham county in the 1830 census. Although hard evidence has not yet surfaced regarding a connection of Amos to William C., there are strong indications that this is may indeed be the case.

If anyone has any information regarding any of these individuals, decendants, ancestors, or even simply feel they may have a connection to them, I would love to hear from you.

I am also working on the Burleson, and Case lines, who have married into these families.

I am not sure if it is entirely appropriate, but as stated above, I would like to issue a "roll-call" of individuals who are working on any Jaques, Jakeway, Jaquay, Jakway, etc. lines to identify themselves or at least who they are trying to find and hopefully we can make some new connections with others who are working on the same lines.
