2004 Obituary reads:
Devoted husband and father passed away quietly at home at the age of 90 returning to Heavenly Father on Feb. 26, 2004. He was surrounded by his beautiful wife, Betty Turnbow Edgar of 64 years and his two daughters Janice Martin of Puyallup, WA and Karen Miles of Richland, WA.
Lee was born Oct. 13, 1913 to Walter Henry Edgar and Ellen Geneva Crowther in Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon completing his education, he met and married his sweetheart Betty Jean with “those Betty Gable legsâ€. Their marriage was solemnized in Dec. 2003 in the Columbia River Temple.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing baseball, bowling and golfing. He also loved gardening and grew the biggest vegetables ever.
Lee was employed with the American Hotels as an insulation installer. After, he worked for Remington Arms as a guard. The family moved to Riverside, CA where he was a guard at Camp Haun. Lee attended the Dunwoody Institute in Illinois and later worked for Rock Island Arsenal, in charge of ammunition and guns, which were supplied to the military during WWII.
He later served as a auxiliary police officer to the military police with the Army and received the Meritorious Service Award for his service.
In 1947 Lee moved his family to Richland where he was employed as a police officer and crime scene photographer for the Richland Police Dept. Photography became a large part of his life when he joined Batelle Northwest, becoming an award winning industrial photographer. He retired from Batelle. During the same time period Lee was heavily involved in local sports and became a part time sports writer for the Richland Villager. Eventually he wrote for the Columbia Basin News, “Lee Sideâ€, and later wrote local sports news for the Spokane Review and the Tri City Herald as its Sports Editor. When he retired from Batelle, he drove a school bus until he was 80 years and only quit so he could golf more.
Lee always had a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a quick wit, which always caught everyone off guard and made them laugh. You are irreplaceable! Save us a spot!
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wally, sister Delores and granddaughters, Arah and Amy Martin. He leaves his daughters Janice Martin (Ted), Karen Miles, grandchildren, Gerry Kincheloe, Corey Kincheloe, (Temple), Scott Martin (Linda), Anne Martin, Chris Martin (Hilary), Ryan Gross (Shelli), Pamela Burdwell (Paul), 9 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2004, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland. A funeral will held on Wednesday, 3, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints , 1720 Thayer Drive, Richland, WA. Bishop Jacks presiding.
Those wishing to give a memorial can do so by donating to a charity of their choice.
