ELUSIVE ANCESTERS MISSING IN ACTION! Looking for parent's names of my husband's grandfather,
Jonas J. JOHNSON and his brother, Fred
Jantz.
Jonas J. Johnson changed his name to
Jantz after 1910 Census (reason unknown; many others were changing their names or he was getting someone else's mail and not receiving his own?).
We only know them as John and Susan Johnson/Jantz.
My aunts and uncles say their father,
Jonas J. Jantz, did not speak of his family, as he left home at an early age. They also don't know what the initial "J" stands for.
Q: could the immigrant have been John T. (Tobias?) JANTZEN ?
He (Grandfather
Jonas) was listed on 1910 Census record in Karoma Twnp,
Alfalfa Co, OK, as
Jonas J. Johnson, but he changed his name to
Jantz after 1910. Would be helpful to locate my grandfather's record of birth (info below), so will also contact
Kansas State Dept of Vital Statistics. We believe they were Mennonites who immigrated from Poland Russia in 1874, but I don't know exactly what names to look for on the ship lists.
