Seeking information on family of Sarah Jakes, b. around 1830 in Ohio. Married Nicholas Holtsberry around 1850 in Licking Co. Ohio. Any information would be greatly appreciated; this is a hard line for me to trace. Thanks, Alissa.

Sarah Jakes (Jaques, Jacques) was my 2nd G-Grandmother. She was married to David Byrum before she married Nicholas Holsberry. I am not sure of the spelling of her last name. In my family Bible it is spelled Jakes, on my great grandfather's death certificate is spelled Jaques. She was born 7 Oct 1819 and died 13 Dec 1883. She is buried in Alton Cemetery near Alton, Franklin Co., Ohio

John Nicholas Holtsberry, b. 20 Jul 1820, Licking Co., OH, m. 22 Nov 1848 . OH to Sarah Jakes. John Nicholas died 21 Jun 1886 in Jackson Twp., Paulding Co., OH. He was the son of R$ichard Holtsberry and Catherine Harter who was born in Rockingham Co, VA. Their children: Gabriel, b. 3 Oct 1849, Buckeye Lake, OH and died 13 Mar 1926, Buckeye Lake. M. Ida Alice Karnes; Mary Elizabeth b. 11 May 1851; Richard Pierce b. 15 Dec 1852 hebron, Licking Co, OH m. Tryphena Love Clover and Nellie Blanch Raypole; James b. 2 May, 1859; Emily, b. 9 Jul 1857; Martha Ann b. 3 Jun 1855

I have all the statistics on John Nicholas and some on their children. You should try looking in Paulding, Paulding Co. OH. Ray Keck and others have compiled lots of books on birts, deaths, marriages, veterans, etc. They are very helpful. Let me know if you want more on the children. You may be able to look at trees thru them.

I show that Sarah was born 7 Oct 1819 and died. 23 Dec 1883. She is buried in Alton Cem., Alton, Franklin co., OH. Their 5 children are Gabriel; Mary Elizabeth; Richard Pierce; James; Emily; Martha Ann.

I don't have proof, but Sarah Jaques father may have been Varnum Jaques born 2 Apr 1796 Michnook Pond, Kent Co, RI died 2 Dec 1852 Alexandria, Licking Co, OH. Her mother may have been Susannah Jane Burleson born 1802 Canajoharie, Montgomery Co, NY died 25 Jul 1829 Augusta, Oneida, NY
On William Byrum's death certificate(her son from her first marriage) it is listed that Sarah was born in NY. Also, there are several Holsberry families in Licking Co, OH. Licking Co is just east of Franklin Co where Sarah lived with John Holtsberry and where she is buried.

Take this info with a grain of salt because it is conjecture.

PS. I have been to Varnum Jaque's grave and there is a new stone marker on his grave. I don't know who put it there.
