ISLE LA MOTTE, Vt. — John Thomas Jajer, 81, a resident of the Isle La Motte community since 1963, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2004, in the Northwestern Medical Center in Saint Albans City.
A native of New Milford, Conn., he was born on Dec. 5, 1922, he was the son of the late John Sr. and Margaret Carroll Jajer. He attended schools in Connecticut and on June 20, 1950, was married to the former Isabel L Griggs who predeceased him on Jan. 16, 1984.
For most of his working life John was self-employed as a carpenter and was a part of many large construction projects.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy assigned to the USS Rodman in the Mediterranean and Atlantic Campaigns during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew B. Mygatt Post 1672 in New Milford, Conn., and a former member of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburg, Vt.
John leaves his daughter with whom he made his home, Carol Mashtare of Isle La Motte; two granddaughters, Mary Manor and her husband Kevin of Rouses Point, and Wendy Favreau and her husband Adlai of Mooers Forks; six great-grandchildren, Casey and Michael Manor of Rouses Point and Briana and Brandon Mashtare and Elaina and Evan Favreau all of Mooers Forks. He is also survived by four brothers, Frank, Vincent, Martin and Morris Jajer all of New Milford, Conn., as well as family members including John and Margaret Marsh of Bridgewater, Conn., Gloria Wagner of South Carolina and Clint Deo of Isle La Motte and several nieces and nephews.
John’s family wishes to offer very special thanks to the staff of the Northwestern Medical Center and the Visiting Nurse Association as well as his caregiver Edna Bradley for all the love, care and support given to John during his illness.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Grand Isle Village Cemetery Receiving Vault to await interment there in the spring.
