Good Book

A couple of months back I was speaking to a neighbor about my Jaillet ancestors. He informed me, he had a good friend who had ancestors also from Nova Scotia and introduced us.

Lo and behold not only did both our ancestors (Andre Jaillet and Louis Payzant) live in the same town, (Lunenburg) at the same time period, but they only lived a mere two blocks from each other. I just finished reading a book provided to me by my new found friend. “A Passion for Survival” The true story of Marie Anne and Louis Payzant in Eighteenth-century Nova Scotia. By Linda G. Layton.

A very interesting and well documented book. It really opened my eyes as to just how hard life was 250 years ago. Although the Jaillet family is not actually mentioned in the book, it is very easy to assume some of the same factors contributed to the lives of our family as well. The book follows the lives of Louis Payzant and his wife from the persecution in France of the Huguenots, to their escape to the New World. The hardships of life and tragic murder of Louis and abduction of his wife and children at the hands of
Maliseet natives from their Nova Scotia island home. This is a fascinating read that I highly recommend.

Would anyone happen to know of any biographies written about/by the Jaillet family?

Thanks,
Scott
