My great grandfather Herman James Jacob was born in 1874 in Canada and I'm told he traveled the lakes and settled in Chicago, IL at an early age (varying reports of 9-14 years old). It is believed he may have lived with a sister (Helen, Annie or Bernice, I'm not sure which one) for awhile.

He married Annie Laura Powers (b. 1874)in 1900 and owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Chicago. I know he was into yachting and he was a Freemason. His father's name is supposedly John Arthur Jacob (b. 1830) who I am told was well known in Chatham, possibly as a ship builder.

Does anyone have any clues on these two or anyone else possibly related to them?
