Oh no, its much simpler than that. Y chromosone is passed from father to son unchanged except for mutations that occur over time. Therefore if you and I shared a common male ancestor then our analysis would look very similar. They usually look at 40-60 markers now, so we would only have a few markers that were not identical (the mutations) and those would only be off a little.

As far as how you would have to donate a sample, you just swab the inside of your cheek with a cotton swab, seal in and mail it back in. Thats very simple.

Now how would I know what Andrew Jackson's yDNA was? I have to test the yDNA of a known ancestor of Andrew Jackson.

Of course, if there was an "indiscretion" along the way (non-marital father) then this would show up.

Hello there,

I'm curious on exactly on how the process works? Because how did they get the DNA from burials or find you ancestors. Do they did dig up the body in order to get the DNA results? Like Pres. Andrew Jackson? Does our DNA proves the connection to him? What happens in between family that had died. Do they dig up those bodies too in order to get the DNA? Let me know how it works? I know there is a video or something shows exactly on how is done.

Thanks for any input.
Hello there,

I have not done my DNA and I'm sure it is way over due. I should had this done long time ago. I know the price had gone down quite a bit and it is reasonable to have it done.

Thanks for the advice though.

Brad Sydnor

Don't mean to be repetitive but does anyone have any yDNA testing results for known descendants. My line is haplogroup I1a. There are Texan Jacksons who track ancestors thru Ga, Ala to Texas who match me fairly closely but we haven't found the common ancestor yet. I would urge anyone serious about proving their family genealogy to get yDNA testing done and share the results thru the testing databases.

Yes the Jacksons from Chester were quakers who came to Wrightsboro GA and moved west from there. I believe that I have seen documentation on a Benjamin Jackson with wife Susannah who lived in Wilkinson County Ga at the time of his death. There is a lot of documentation on a Benjamin Jackson who lived in Hancock Co Georgia and whose death dates is listed as 1797. This one is often connected with the Benjamin you mentioned but Wilkinson Co. did not exist before 1805 so it is unlikely to be the same one as spouse of Susannah.

Thank you for your reply. I am enclosing my personal email address. If you will contact me there, I will send you a copy of the full page newspaper article that was written by my great, great grandmother around 1924 in which she made the claim regarding the connection between her husband and Andrew Jackson. It is quite an interesting article. mjbell522@msn.com.

Hello Gwen,

I'm so sorry that I was late on your reply. I was actaully gathering all the Jacksons between Pres. Andrew Jackson, Stonewall Jackson and Anthony Jackson II.
Do you have the actual linked between Pres. Andrew Jackson and Stonewall Jackson? You have mentioned Alfred Tennyson and Richard Hildyard, what is the line connection here?

Well, RICHARD HILDYARD b.1532, Winestead, Holderness, Yorkshire, England, d. 1602,Routh, Killingswold, Yorkshire, England. He married JANE THWENGE. She was b. 1536, Weaverthorpe, ,Yorkshire, England. They had a dau. named Ursula Hildyard b. 1577, Beverly,, Yorkshire, England, d. Beverly,, Yorkshire, England. She married Sir Richard Jackson. He was b. 24 May 1571, Killingsgrave, ,Yorkshire, England, d. Jun 1613, Bishop Burton Parish, ,Yorkshire, England. Their son Anthony Jackson II is the gr. gr. grandfather of Pres. Andrew Jackson. I don't know the connection though. This was mentioned by Deborah Jackson who married Rev. Robert McGintry back in 1770's.

I will search for more clues here. Keep in touch.
Thanks for you message,

Brad Sydnor

Hello there,

Sorry for a very late reply. I was working on all the Jackson in U.S. that are related the three major lines. Pres. Andrew Jackson, Stonewall Jackson and third would be Anthony Jackson II because these three shows the major lineages of the Jackson Family. Not yet all three has been connected. Many hisroians, experts and etc. have not been able to find the connections. I also found interestingly enough that there were many descendants had came forward like yourself claimed that somehow you related to Pres. Andrew Jackson. These accounts were mentioned back to the time when these Jackson's witness claimed to be related to these famous people. In those days I'm sure they were telling the truth compares today's world. Today people are looking for fame rather than the real honest truth. We need to take it as an accurate of this.
Your infomation may shows some light and yet I don't have the connection yet. I do have a lot of Samuels on my list but none of them seems to fit the time frame you have given. However, I do have some has gone to Alabama and thru Texas. This is a good sign and reassuring that there is something more we can go on. I will look into this even more and hope to shed some light for you. Please check on on the brothers and sisters too because this can lead back to their parents and will help to find all the data of these people even better.

I do need to ask you about on how did you derived that your ancestors had a connection with Pres. Andrew Jackson?

Thanks for posting your message,

Brad Sydnor

Hello there,

I have a Benjamin Jackson b. 1750, Chester County, Pennsylvania, d. 15 Mar 1805, in Hancock County, Georgia. He had married Susannah (no last name). Bu their parents were Benjamin Jackson and Elizabeth Clark. What's got my intention was your Bejamin Jackson did go to Georgia? Is it possible this could be the same one? But the father was Moses? I don't have any name with Moses though? Just the thought.
Thank anyway. I find it facinating that you have the older generattions, working downward. Most of us have it the other way around.. In this family, it seems like what is missing is the middle generations. Someone one out there must have it tucked away somewhere.
I can confirm that neete, william and mary are listed on the blount county census for hanceville,al in 1880 hanceville is now in cullman co. William and Neete married a brother and sister (whitakers) on the same night. Our family is familiar with being double 1st cousins with the whitakers and know of neete and Martin's children. Martin lived in cullman and was know as Wes from Martin wesley. William is my ggrandfather he divorced his 1st wife mae whitaker moved to Cherry Valley Arkansas and is buried there. He remarried a Rose Stidham and raised another family. Williams middle name is pink possibly pinkney from the lewis family of "Jack's" Mother Susan Lewis. I believe I have seen a census that listed Emma but have not found any other record of her alive or dead and no family members canconfirm having heard of her?

I really don't have any information on the siblings. Mrs. Lassiter wrote a book that has information on the Jacksons. As far as I know, she is the best resource on family history. This is certainly one of those things I wish I'd paid more attention to when my older relatives were still living. I went to a family reunion in 1990 in Marietta and there was some information handed out. I am looking to reconnect and fill in the gaps myself.

Thanks! Sounds like we're cousins, of a sort. Martin Wesley Jackson is my great-grandfather, by way of his daughter Hattie Mae. My mom and aunt both remember their mother talking about Aunt Neet and Uncle Tom. They also have recollection of a Mayboy Jackson, which we have theorized as William's son, Marion. Can you confirm this, since you're from William's line? Actually, here's what I have for Jack Jackson, his kids, and their kids (including the info you've just shared):

(1) Jack Jackson married Mary Starnes
-Mary Jackson
+William P.
Would like to join this discussion on Hartwell Jackson. I have his father as Drury Jackson and Nancy Ann Winfield. I am certain I relate to this group of JAcksons, just have to find how and what line exactly.
Drury's father was John JAckson died 1794 and his mother is Elizabeth_______, They were in present day Granville Co.(then Bute Co) and eventually went on to Edgefield Dist, SC.

I have Drury's other children as:
Elizabeth
John, b. 1773
Hartwell(as discussed)
Wyche
Edmond
Nancy Ann marr her first cousin Andrew Bradford Jackson.
Is this a complete list?
I am looking for a "Loe Jackson" born 1771 in Granville Co., NC. He is somehow related to this group. HAve you seen his name on any documents? If you have, it will be a miracle.
pmitchell4328@sbcglobal.net
I do not believe this is correct ages of John Jackson and Mary Hancock Jackson on plaque in London KY cemetery would make John Jackson too young to be Reuben Jackson's father. And Mary Hancock would have been 8 years old in 1775 when Reuben Jackson was born.

Alexander Jackson (b. about 1786) and Park Family

Does anyone have any information on Alexander Jackson, born approximately 1786, possibly in one of the Carolinas or in Georgia? His son Abner Mitchell Jackson, Sr., was born 12 April 1812, possibly in S.C. or Georgia. His grandson, Abner Mitchell Jackson, Jr., was born 8 October 1845 in Pike County, Alabama.

I have documentation for NSDAR for my Gibson, Park, Richbourg and other relatives but would like to find my Jackson link. It would be very cool to be related to Col. Isaac Jackson, the Regulator! But here are some facts:

Alexander may have married a Martha (Warren?); then a second marriage to Mary Shaw. Abner Mitchell, Sr.’s first child, a daughter, was named Martha and died when about two years old from burns from a scalding water accident; Abner Mitchell, Sr.’s oldest son was named Warren Alexander Jackson (married a widow, Annie Dozier Dorman). Mary Shaw is mentioned in Alexander’s will (of which I have a copy) as his wife. Alexander’s Will was contested by his oldest son, Daniel Shaw Jackson, who submitted to the Pike County Alabama Court that Alexander (who died about 1854) had intended for his estate to be a “Life Estate”. That was the ruling. My ancestor, Abner Mitchell, Sr., who was Alexander’s second and middle son, was the Administer of the Estate. In the next generation, all this very large estate was divided up between about 12 heirs. In Georgia, Alexander had property (per 1818 Jones County Tax) between Shaw and Raines and in Clinton. So, obviously, these men knew each other and probably were related thru birth or marriage. Abner Mitchell, Sr’s, son, Abner Mitchell, Jr., married Sarah Owen Park, known as “Kitty”, who was the daughter of Joseph Harrison Park and Apsilla “Absey” Kolb Park. Bob Jackson, (who was named for his two grandfathers, Abner Mitchell Jackson, Jr., and William Allen Jones, called “Bob”, who married Mahitabel Spry Gibson), barely remembered his grandmother “Kitty” Park Jackson as an elderly lady in a wheelchair in Glenwood, Alabama. ‘From the side bar’, this “Kitty’s” (Sarah Owen Park Jackson) father, Joseph Harrison Park had a sister, Jane Owen Glen Park, and her uncle, Richard S. Park (brother of Joseph Harrison Park) had a daughter Jane Owen Glen Park. Jane, sister of Joseph Harrison Park, married Solomon Siler and Jane, daughter of Richard S. Park, married Major William Burt Allred, who both eventually moved from Georgia and lived in Pike County, Alabama, on plantations about twenty miles apart, Jane Park Allred lived near Henderson, Pike County, Alabama, and Jane Park Siler lived in Orion, Pike County, Alabama.

The mystery man is my Alexander Jackson. I can document 13 different directions (Abner Mitchell, Sr., had 13 children) going FORWARD from Alexander, but I have not so far documented Alexander’s origin and ancestors. It has been reported that Alexander was a Justice of the Peace in Pike County, Alabama, in June, 1824. Unfortunately, the Pike County Courthouse burned down a couple of times and General Sherman destroyed the Clinton area of Georgia.

I now live in Wasington, D.C. and plan to spend whatever time is necessary at the National Archives to ‘find’ my Alexander, but it seems foolish to “reinvent the wheel” if some other researcher has found my Alexander.

As the saying goes, there are more Jacksons than God made little green peas! (: But, another researcher and friend, Naomi Vickers, and I are recruiting males in our Jackson lines to participate in the DNA tests, and we hope to find some missing ‘links’ very soon.

Just some of the related or possibly related lines to my Alexander Jackson are Speir, Shaw, Warren, Kolb, Gibson, Jones, Richbourg, Park, Owen, Glen, Musgrove, Sankey, Mitchell, Manning, Myrick, Dozier, Mayfield, Allred, Siler, Pitts, Barnett, Bedell, McGinty, Borland, Boswell, Moore, etc, etc. etc.!

Thank you for any information. I, as well as many, many Jackson researchers, will be very grateful if you have any information to document and trace my Alexander Jackson back to his origins.

Very Respectfully,
Sharon Jackson Mayfield
Jacksons of Portsmouth

I am looking for descendants of Samuel Jackson of Portsmouth who died in 1758. I believe had children: Joseph, Samuel, Nathaniel, Richard,Thomas, Jonathan, Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret and Sarah, and that I may be be a descendant of Joseph.

My ancestor Samuel Jackson (b.1754) and his brother Joseph (Jr. b.1752) came to Jefferson, ME in 1776 from "Newcastle" -- which we cannot determine with any certainty if it would be neighboring Newcastle, Maine or New Castle, New Hampshire.

Any information on Portsmouth Jacksons wouold be greatly appreaciated - Thank you.
This particular Reuben Jacksons parents are a mistory. He was one of 20 something children and I have found no records of any sibling names. John Jackson and Mary Hancock were not his parents. They are buried in the A.R. Dyche cemetary in London, KY and I have pictures of the memorial that the city placed. I live in London so I have a lot of cemetary photos on Jacksons and families linking to them. Also have copies of personal pictures.
