Fulton Jackson
Funeral services for Mr. Fulton Jackson will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. John Stephens & Rev. Nathan Moore officiating. Interment will be in Noxapater Methodist Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 5-9 PM Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services.
Mr. Jackson, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. He was born on May 12, 1926 in Neshoba County, where he lived all of his life. He was one of twelve children born in the North Bend Community of Neshoba County to William (Will) Jefferson and Mary (Mae) Evelyn Fulton Jackson.
He was a World War II Veteran, one of seven brothers who served his country. He served in the United States Army from January 11, 1945 to November 29, 1946. He finished basic training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas and was then transferred overseas in the Philippine Islands until his discharge where he remained in the Transportation Core. When discharged he had a rank of T-5.
After leaving the Army, he farmed in Neshoba County for a number of years. After determining that farming did not provide an adequate income, he continued to farm on a part-time basis and first obtained employment with The Cole Brothers Company for approximately 4 years and then worked with Wells Lamont for 2 years. At that time, he was able to secure employment with Daws Funeral Home in Philadelphia.
While he worked with Daws for approximately 12 years, he started in the capacity of director and embalmer. After approximately 6 years with the Funeral Home, he decided to run for and was elected to the office of County Coroner and County Ranger, holding the office for 8 years and decided not to seek again due to his official position at that time. As an employee of the funeral home and coroner, he was on call twenty-four hours a day. When Daws Funeral Home changed
ownership, he was able to obtain employment with the City of Philadelphia Police Department.
In December 1967 he was employed by the City of Philadelphia Police Department as a patrolman. After completing training at the Police Academy in Pearl, MS in March, 1969. He was appointed Chief of Police of the City of Philadelphia Police Department and maintained that position until the 22nd day of February, 1984.
Mr. Jackson was a funeral director & was employed with John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services until he was forced to retire due to illness. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post Number 4396, The American Legion Post 138, Hamasa Shrine & Masonic Lodge Post #93. His hobbies were fishing, cutting grass and serving the public. Mr. Jackson was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church since 1951.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Will) Jackson & Mary (Mae) Elizabeth Fulton Jackson; wife, Otis Price Jackson; sister Marie Smith; brothers, James Clark Jackson, C.O. (O'Neil) Jackson, Garland Jackson, Lawson Jackson and Jeffie Jackson.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his daughter, Cathy Jackson Smith of Phila, MS; special companion, Sissy; sisters, Doris Boggan of Brandon, MS & Mary Nance of Phila, MS; brothers, O.D. (Dill) Jackson of Phila, MS, Windell Jackson of Phila, MS, and Howard Jackson of Thomasville, AL; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Pallbearers are Bobby Jackson, Joey Jackson, Steve Nance, Greg Jackson, Larry Jackson, Willie Jackson, Ricky Boggan & Ward Bedsole
