I live in the USA and am not skilled in searching British records.

So far as I can tell, my great-grandfather Alexander Mitchell, born 1n 1845 in Old Monkland in Lanarkshire, Scotland, had a grandmother named Elizabeth Izatt who was married to Francis Black, born 1780. Elizabeth and Francis married in 1813 in Dumferline, Scotland and had a daughter Elizabeth (or maybe Mary), born 1820, who was the mother of my great-grandfather Mitchell.

Elizabeth Black married my great-grandfather's father in 1840 in Old Monkland in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her husband was also named Alexander Mitchell.

I find several Black-Izatt mariages in Internet records. I cannot put them in any family context.

At any rate,I am out of my depth in researching this line. Can anyone connect my Elizabeth Izatt to a set of parents?

The Izatt name seems very unusual and does not sound like my other Scots names.

I have an Elizabeth Izat in my line but I have her birth date in 1788. Her parents were Jean Mitchell b. 1755 & William Izatt b-3 Feb 1754 I don't know if it is the one you are looking for. I do not have any other information on Elizabeth.

Your Elizabeth Izatt seems a little early to be mine, but we are in all probability looking into related Izatt families. I don't know who Jean Mitchell was although his last name was the same as mine. But there were many Mitchells in Scotland, not very many Izatts. Thanks for posting. 11mitchell@mchsi.com
