Hi, Julie--I have seen some of your information in ancestry. Would you have a date of death for Andrew Izett Watson or any photos? I have found--maybe you knew--that he actually wrote two operas. He was very talented, it seems.

I don't think that Andrew died when Beryl was 12 (1908) although she may have been told that. He shows up in election roles up until 1937 and he shows up at age 50 as marrying Mary Ann Cary--in 1908. Mary Elizabeth was a world-class liar/con artist, so she may have told Beryl her father died. She herself died in 1915 and we have found her grave and death certificate. She lied about her age even there, and she is buried alone in a double plot. Norman signed her death certificate. I know Norman was Beryl's brother from military papers--Norman was a prisoner of war in WWI. Unless there was another Izett Watson (the name he consistently used, also an artist, I think he did not die in 1908, yet I cannot determine when he did.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos as far as I know. I have 2 photos (approx 1930) of the Watson family including my grandmother Rose Haines nee Watson but I don't know who the other people in the family photo are apart from my father. I can send them to you. I would be interested in any information you have about Andrew or indeed any of the Watson family.

Hi Valerie, I am the great grand-daughter of Mary Ann Carey, the second wife of Andrew Izett Watson. If you are interested I can share with you a copy of the death certificate for Andrew, plus can tell you something of his family situation when he died. In hope of hearing from you, Rebecca Martin (Melbourne, Victoria)

I am so pleased to hear from you! I would love to see the certificate--I know of an Australian scholar who is interested in him as an artist, and he has been unable to find anything. I just find Watson very interesting, and I can share with you a painting he did of one of my great, great aunts. Thanks very much for contacting me. I will contact you with an email.

I live in Melbourne Victoria and have a beautiful piece of art by Izett Watson. I had the Castlemaine Art Gallery Curator authenticate it. Dated 1898. Izett is a fascinating man and i would be happy to share the information i have on him myself. There is a Street named after him in Melbourne i believe. Melbournes first Art school.
Please feel free to contact me. My mobile number is 0431368162

Hi there Rebecca, my name is trish Machin and i have read some of the posts in regard to Izett Watson and find his history to be so interesting. I recently picked up a beautiful painting of his and set about to find his history of which i have found some. The painting is gorgeous and if you like i can send you photos of them. I took the painting to the Castlemaine Art Gallery that is connected to The Melbourne Art Gallery and had the curator view it, he was pleasantly surprised and a bit embarrassed that after 19 years there he knew little about Izett i knew more about him. Any way i thought you may like to make contact i am in Melbourne my number is 0431368162. If you are in touch with Valerie i have tried to contact her also as she has a friend who is very interested in Izett Watson paintings.
Hope to hear from you

Hello Trish, I'm delighted to read your messages, and will phone you this evening, if that is convenient for you (if not, I'll try again tomorrow). It's heartening to hear you're an appreciative custodian of one of Izett's paintings, and yes, I'd love to see a photo of it. We have a couple of his paintings in my wider family too, of which I can share photos of with you. I've also been doing some extensive research on AIW's later years (from when he married my great-grandmother in 1908, until his death here in Victoria, and will be happy to share the fruits of those labours with you. He was such an interesting character, and something of a slippery eel, as he worked under an alias for some years. Looking forward to chatting with you a little later today, with kind regards, Rebecca
