I have traced my family back to Alexander Izat b. 1734 and Jean Clarke b 1738. I have also traced a lot of their descendants down many branches of the family. I would be interested to hear from other descendants who could help to fill in the gaps. Also would like to go back further to try and link other Izat families.

Dear Mr Izatt

I was most interested in the programmes on Channel 4 about the Tower of London.

My grandmother was Anabella Izat born 1853. From my copy from the Australian Geneoligist about the Izats of Methvyn Castle. I have the family tree from Henry De Izat born 1241 - to John Izat of Balilisk now residing in Berwick, Scotland.

I see that Herbert de Izat 1st Knight was beheaded in 1377, also Sir Walter 2nd Knight beheaded in 1645.

I would like to know where Methvyn Castle was. The only reference I have of Methvyn Castle is where Margaret, daughter of Henry VII died 1541.

I have always been very interested in my family tree and would welcome any information you could share with me.

Dear Ms Leitch,
thank you for your enquiry. I have a lot of BMD and census information which I have verified on the official GROS site. I would be very happy to share this information with you. I conclude your Grandfather was Robert Ferguson born abt. 1855.
If you print out this message, you should be able to see my email address which is disguised by ancestry.co.uk to avoid spam. Please contact me directly and I will arrange to send you the information I have. There may be too much to e-mail to you.
I would be extremely interested in the family tree information you have as I have not been able to get past Alexander Izat and Jean Clark.
John Izat in Berwick is my first cousin once removed.

Ethel McClintock Bunbury’s elder sister Nena (Beatrice) Ievers obtained an MD from Edinburgh University and married a Ceylonese civil servant Norman Izat. His father, Alexander Izat, CIE, MICE, was Chief Engineer of the Daund-Manmad (opened 1878) and Bhavnagar- Gondal (1880) lines and had risen to be Director of the Bengal & North-Western Railway Company. Nena and Norman had three children - Mary , Katherine Izat and Allan – who would thus have been first cousins of my grandfather. Mary Izat married Frank Pilditch and had a son David.
Katherine Izat married Michael King and had a son, Duncan, and daughter, Deborah.
Allan Izat married Fran Killeraun and had a son Anthony. I am presuming that Anthony’s son is the John Izat (NJAI@aol.com) who contacted me on 2nd June 2004 to say that his grandfather, hitherto “N. Izat” was in fact “Norman Izat”.

Dear John Izat,
I am trying to trace a John Issits (Isitt) who married a Mary Dally of Loveston Pembs on 1-12-1798. He was a dockyard blacksmith and may have been of East European Jewish origin. My latest lead is about a Robert Izat in Lambeth London who in 1808 married a Louisa Norton or Norden, who was related to a Jewish family from Amsterdam, who had changed their name from Moshe) Does any part of this ring a bell? Dear Mr. Izatt and Doris Leitch,

I hope and pray that you still check this site, especially since it's been many years since you last wrote these messages. I too have a copy of the letters from Australia talking about the Izat's from Methvyn Castle. When I was in England, I tried to find out more information about a Walter Izat that tried to kill Cromwell and was taken to the Tower of London, were he was beheaded. I even went to the Tower and was not able to find out anything on this Walter Izat, who might be an ancestor. My great grandmother was Jannette Izatt who was born 26 Jan 1881 in Logan, Utah. She was married to John Moore in 7 May 1902. Her father was David Izatt, he was born 14 Mar 1846, he married Isabelle McNeil in 24 Jun 1870.

If you could help me find out more about this Walter Izat and the names of family members that he list in the letters, I really would appreciate it. I've been searching for so long that I admit I had given up. Thank you for your time.

Hi
There is no historical record of a Walter de Izat and records at the Tower of London do not show the execution of anybody by that name.
The opinion of myself and other members of my family is that this was a ficticious tale, written sometime in the 19th Century. However this is only an opinion and if anybody can show positive proof of his existance then we would be more than happy to re-consider.
We have traced the Izat side of the family back to the early 1700's and possibly late 17th century but have not established any connection to the Izatts of Utah - yet.
Regards,
John Izat

Hi Paul
Should be grateful to share your reasons for these two statements "from Amsterdam, who had changed their name from Moshe". I am fascinated as I have been researching the Nordens and Nortons for more than 12 years.
Incidentally Louisa was a Norton but Nordens and Nortons were closely related.
Please explain direct to hazel.dakers@blueyonder.co.uk

Thanks
Hazel
