NOBLE, Iowa -- Katharyn Iwanowski, 74, of Noble died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.

Services are at Bethel Mennonite Church north of Wayland. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Bethel Mennonite Church. Beatty Funeral Home of Washington is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Iwanowski was born July 29, 1927, in Kerebovo, Belaruis Russia, the daughter of John and Maria Dashkiewich. She married Leon lwanowski July 6, 1948, in Altenmorkt.

When she moved to Iowa in 1950, she was given an English-language Bible of which she used to compare words to her Russian Bible so she could learn the language. Even today in her Bible there are still Russian words written out to the side and question marks beside some of the passages.

She loved her church, Bethel Mennonite and was a faithful member, quilting at the WMSC sewing circles, and creating beautiful flower arrangements as well as traveling with the John Birch Society to decry communism.

She cleaned houses and prepared meals at The Coffee Cup Restaurant in Olds and helped out when needed.

Survivors include her husband, Leon of Nobel; two sons, Wesley of Knoxville, and Victor of Muscatine; three brothers, Alex Dashkiewich of Blairstow, N.J., Dymitry and Nick Dashkiewich, both of South River, N.J.; two grandchildren, Alex and Kaitlin Iwanowski.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Dustin.
