Anna Iwaniw (nee Osadciw), a longtime Yonkers resident, died on Thursday March 17, 2011 at St. John's Riverside Hospital. She was 79 years old. She was born on January 1, 1932 to Dmytro and Barbara Melnyk Osadciw in Buchach, Zvenyhorod, Ternopil, Ukraine where she was raised and educated. Mrs. Iwaniw was a cafeteria worker at St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers for twelve years prior to her retirement. Previously, she was a technician at U.S. Vitamins in Tuckahoe for twelve years. Mrs. Iwaniw was a member of the organization for the defense of the Four Freedoms of Ukraine. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. On September 5, 1954, she married her loving husband Nicholas Iwaniw at St. George Ukrainian Church in New York City. Mr. Iwaniw died on January 17, 2004. Survivors include one daughter, Christine Balko and her husband Bohdan of Yonkers and one son Ihor Alex Iwaniw, M.D. and his wife Irene of Hopewell Junction, N.Y. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Larysa, Christina, Alexandra and Nicholas. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Stepan Osadciw. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 7-9 PM and Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Pannikhida Service Monday 7:30 PM. Funeral Service will be held in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Tuesday March 22nd at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Michael's Church Building Fund, 21 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y. 10703.
