Definitely would be interested in working and sharing info. When you get a chance, you should check out my genealogy site at http://iwaniw.gq.nu/t_genpge.htmlI've got a link to surnames and an ondex of names. What village/town was Peter Iwaniw born in? What year? Terry

HI!! It's really great to hear from you! As far as what village Peter was from, I'll have to do some calling this evening and get that info.I do know that my mother has a half brother and half sister still living in the Ukraine(Michael Iwaniw and Maria Iwaniw Chipp)I also know that when my family came over to America, some changed the spelling of their name to "Iwine". Theresa,
Can you provide additonal information? You state that your mother's father was born in Poland. Would he have been born in the village of Lutowiska? The village is now a part of Poland, but was also a aprt of the Austro-hungarian Empire.

Theresa,
Definitely would like to work together to see if there is any information that we can share.

hi,i am an iwaniw from winnipeg manitoba canada and have long been interested in pursuing my family tree. i know my baba's father jacob was from galacia but i do not have any pertinent info on him. i did have a handwritten letter from him when he crossed the border into canada with my baba stella stonoga, early 1900's. but this may have been lost in moving, though there is a chance it might still be in storage. if i could find. this i would have extra info on jacob. any advice on where to go from here as this is my first search effort, would be greatly appreciated. thanks, gail iwaniw

Hi, I am researching Stonoga. Anna, from Jezierna, Poland. In the 1900's it was Galcia. Now it is called Ozerna, Ukraine. Very complicated history, but also interesting. I had the most success by using Google and also the JewishGen pages. There was so much intertwining at those times, so I looked everywhere I could. Google search also has a "translate" option, that is wonderful. I found a Stella Stonoga, 15 years old, in the 1930 u.s. census for Cambridge, Mass. Father, Philip born 1891. Mother, Esther born 1895. I hope this will help you. Also, another place to look is the Social Security Death Index. Sad, but helpful. Good luck.
