I am a descendent of Mary Isibelle Ivey daughter of Magirt, son of Isiah, son of James.
Has anyone ever been able to decipher who James Ivey's father was. I have read alot of the findings online talking about possible Porteguese blood but it's obvious he was of mixed race. Also how did the family gain the title Free Mulatto this is interesting?
Many trees have him connected as a son of a Joseph Ivey of VA but it's not making much sense to me. Joseph is connected up to a George Ivey which is of English descent.
Do you think James could have been a son of one of the English Iveys through a union with one of the Ivey's slaves? Maybe an indentured servant that took the IVEY name? It's all an interesting mystery :)
Also I see that Mourning claimed a pension on James for the Revoluntionary war but was rejected. Do you think he served in the war?
I find the line fascinating as Mourning is just as curious to me. Thanks for listening just wanted to get anyones opinion.
