He is probably of Slovenian or Croatian origin, but hardly to tell more without other data. Did he immigrated to US or was he born there? Have you heard for any geographic location (village, town, area...)in Europe conected with him?

Thanks for the reply. John A. Ivancic (Ivancich) immigrated to the US 1903/1904, landing in NY. Had an Italian Passport stating he was Italian. Came from the Istrian Peninsula so the elderly relatives state. His death certificate states his father is unknown his mother was Maria Ivancich. He lived as a border after arriving to the US on the east side of Chicago. This may seem like alot of information to you but I keep hitting stone walls.I have no idea who he was! There is a mystery about this man. No one knows much about him, not even his 3 sons. I find this very curious. Granddaughter of John A Ivancich. Looking forward to your response.

It is strange that he had an Italian passport as during that time the Istrian peninsula was under Austro-Hungarian rule (1815 - 1918). Only after WWI the area passed under Italy (1918 - 1945). John A (what is A for?) Ivancic was probably not Italian but spoke Italian (besides his Slovenian or Croatian) ad most of the people of the area did and still do. My g-grandfather (mother side) was Stefan Ivancic and he also emigrated to US during that time (1903 - 1909). He stayed only for short time and than retourned home (exact dates are mistery). If you find anything mor specific on John Ivancich I could try to find out something. Are there any towns he mentioned (besides Trieste or Trst, a port in (now) Italy where he probably started his journey to US; names of other relatives in the "old county" etc.

Hope this helps - My father (Orfeo Ivancic) was born in Istria in the town of PAZIN. His father was Vincent or "Vinko" - Also an Italian Citizin (born and died in Istria). I will look into whether or not he had brothers/cousins related to your inquiry.

He became a U.S. citizen and had his name changed to John Joseph Vanich on May 28 1940. He died in an accident in a Tacoma smelter on Mar 27 1945. He was 35yrs old.

John, You R my 1st reply! My Grandafather came here in 1916, so far I have come to a point where I cannot find much people here R not talking, why? I don't know. I do know his mother's maiden name was BOZICH, Maria. He was killed in an auto accident in 1963 in Chicago. He was born in Croatia (Istria)in a small town of Breste. Anything sound similar? They could be related but cousins. Sue
