I am trying to find information about the family of my grandfather called Alejandro Ivaldi. He was born in a little town at the North of Italy called Bosco Marengo.

Daniel. We are on a similar search. I'm not sure how much you know, but the surname Ivaldi is found in the 12th century peace accord documents between Genova and Pisa. The name is found in Nice, France and Genova, Pisa, Torino, and other small towns between Milan and Genova. My father is Genovese. I have a family tree that goes back about two generations and a few uncles' names. There is a small town called Piemonte (*similar to the region) in which the last name Ivaldi is in the hundreds. My grandfather Sebastiano came from there to Genova along with a few siblings.
Do you have any other info?

Proximity of Hometowns Ponzone and Bosco Marengo
Daniel:
Upon closer look, the town my grandfather came from was Ponzone. It's about 10 miles from Bosco Marengo. I have this feeling that some Diocese around there has "universal" information about the Ivaldi family... any other luck lately? - Davide

David, I don't know if we are related but my grandfather was born in Genoa Itlay. When he got to the US the went to Oakland, California because that is where his brother and father settled. His fathers name was Adrea and his mother's name was Leona. From what he told me his mother died in Itlay when he was a young man. She was riding a horse and her head hit a tree and she died. He was raised by friends of the family who had no sons and wanted one. His father and older brother came to this country first and then he followed. He had two sisters who became nuns in Itlay; one was a mother superior. I don't know what order.
My grandfather Attilio Ivaldi told my brother the name Ivaldi is like Smith here it is a very common name. My brother has a bottle that has the Ivaldi name on it. It is from a brewery there.
Any thing sound familiar. Joy

Well, it's possible. It's true that there are a huge number of Ivaldi families in N.Italy, N.France and Argentina. But I would not say it's like Smith.
The hard part is tracing ancestry. I haven't found a researcher who can hunt Church records and make 3 or more generations back for me.
Your story didn't sound familiar, except for a young daughter who died at a young age. Different circumstances i believe.
I wish I could help more. - Davide

Davide,
What is her story? My question is I have not tried to search in Itlay. How does one go about it. I would love to find out.
All my dad's parents families are from Itlay. I have been told that my grandfather's dad was a gypsy and the family never stayed in one place very long. Only after their mother died did they stay in one place. I guess they saw a lot of Italy though.
Thank you. Joy Oregon

Well, 10 years later I have a little bit more... Found LDS microfilms which showed my grandfather's birth in Nervi ( Sebastian Ernesto Ivaldi, 1907) son of Sebastian Guido Ivaldi(b,abt.1865) and Giuseppina Antonietta Spinetta. She is the daughter of Carlo Spinetta. He is the son of Andrea Ivaldi. Neither was born in Genova. They had several other children ( Carlo, Caterina(abt.1898)...) but not born in Genova-proper. I'm struggling to find where they came from. I've "heard" Ivaldi 's hailed from Ponzone area (about an hour north) and Spinetta might be coastal (like Camogli) But was wondering how far you got in the last decade?

When was your Andera Ivaldi born?
My Andrea Ivaldi was born 12 Jan 1852 (not sure where he was born) married Leonina Giovanna Tassistro. My Andrea "Drea" Ivaldi came to the United States in Feb 1898. His wife Leonina was killed in a buggy accident in Italy. If you want more information email me.
LDS records have his father as Giovanni Ivaldi (NOT PROVEN by me) and his mother as Margherita ? (NOT PROVEN by me)
Three of Andrea "Drea" Ivaldi's children followed him to California. They are Emilio Jul 1898; Attilio came in 1902; and Emma F. Ivaldi.
My Andrea and Leonina Giovanna Tassistro's girls all attended the Sisters of Benedictine boarding school. I have yet to find out where my grandfather Attilio and his brother Emilio attended school in Italy. My grandfather said the nuns rapped his knuckles so I know he attended a boys boarding school but just where I don't know. The girls all attended school with the Sisters of Benedictine in Italy.
Here are the known children of Andrea "Drea" Ivaldi born 12 Jan 1852 and his wife Leoninia Giovanni Tassistro. They married on 12 Oct 1873 in Genova, Genova, Italy. Leonina's sister Rachele Colomba Tassistro married 12 Oct 1873 in Genova, Genova, Italy Luigi CAMPORA (LDS Records).
Leonina had another sister Luigia Tassistro. Their parents were Antonio Tassistro and her mother was Maddalena Lagustena. This is all in LDS Records and not proven by me.

The Ivaldi's hailed from Ricaldone, Piedmonte, Alessandria, Italy. There are many buried in the Ricaldone cemetery. You might check there, too.

Joy, that was illuminating, the problem is I haven't searched the Alessandria sources. Are they public or subscription? Since Sebastian Guido was born 1865, I estimate Andrea was born between 1826 and 1845. Thanks for that.
