My grandparents were Gaetano Leto b 1856 & Rosalia Maria Oliveri b 1870. I have many family records from Santo Stefano on many related familys dating back to 1600's. I
am searching for records on ancestors in that area or Palermo who might be related to mine. I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks

The last relative I have family history on is my Great Grand Father his family is from Palermo, Italy. His name was Natale Italiano. I have always been told Italiano is not my real last name, but my grand father swears to it. Do you have any information on any living relatives in Palermo or the surrounding area with the last name Italiano?

My parents are both from Caserta, Italy; therefore,I am 1st generation here in the US. I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although I know of no family members from or living in Palermo, we do share the same name background, and wanted to let you know.

I don't think I have any relation but, The Italiano name is a real surname as far as I can tell. As I have heard Italiano is in Italy (Sicily) like Smith is in USA.
I am interested also in the Paleramo area and the Italiano surname. My last known relative with that name is Joesph (joesphie)something to that extent. His wifes name is
Giovanna or Jeanie Petralia. They both came to the states in 1899 I believe to PA.
Any help??? Can you help me????

Do you know of anyway to contact any English speaking people in Italy with ANY knowledge of the Italiano name. My name was changed to Telliano sometime prior to my grandfathers birth.
For some unknown reason. Originally though it was Italiano. My family came over from Sicily in or around 1899 from Palermo supposedly. They came into Philadelpia, PA I believe. I was also told that my grandfather had a brother (I think Vittorio) that settled in that area or possibly Chicago.

I am researching my g.grandmother, Antoinette Petralia [born 1860-1870's.]. She married Carmello Joseph Tessitore [born 1860's?]. Both were from Palermo probably married there in the 1890's. Their 4 children were born in New Orleans, the first in 1897. The Tessitore family had a grocery store for many years in New Orleans. The children are John, Beatrice, Joseph, Fina [Josephine].

Does any of this sound familiar?

I dont know if this will help you. My g.grandmothers maiden name was Petralia. She married into the Italiano or Telliano family. I dont know of any of her brothers or sisters, however she did name one of her daughters Antoniette. I dont know if there is a relationship there but would love to see if you might know if your g.grandmother had any brothers or sisters. One possibly named Giovanna (spelling might be wrong) she was born in Sicily in 1879 and immigrated to America in 1899. I have no idea of her moms name however I think it maybe Elizabeth or simular. Any ideas???

Thanks for your reply. This sounds promising. Do you know what city your g.grandmother was from? Where in America did they settle? I'm told that my g.grandmother spoke very little English her grandchildren could not easily converse with her. I am trying to locate birth certificates for her children to get a new direction. If you would like to communicate directly, my e-mail is -- brescher@att.net.

The name was changed in 1940's to avoid problems being Italian in WWII. You can check LA county records in CA.
