I have recently found the passenger records of a Paul Istvan, who moved from Benicanci, Slavonia, Austria-Hungary (now in Croatia) to Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey in 1907. Paul was the brother of my great-grandfather, Michael Istvan. My father has been trying to find this lost branch of my family for 60 years. I have found census records for Paul Istvan in 1910, 1920 and 1930. In 1910 and 1920, Paul listed his last name as Stevens (Istvan means Steven in Hungarian). In 1930, he was listed as Paul Istvan. According to these census records, Paul married Esther Sabol around 1912. They had the following children: Julia Istvan, born abt. 1914; Esther Istvan, born abt. 1916; Frank Istvan, born abt. 1917; Paul Istvan, born abt. 1919; Elizabeth Istvan, born abt. 1922. All five children were born in Perth Amboy, Middlesex, NJ. Keep in mind that any or all of these children could have gone by the surname Stevens/Stephens. I am desperately wanting to make contact with any descendants of this family. Feel free to e-mail me directly at
